Floating Market

Pattaya Floating Market is located to the south of Pattaya on Sukhumvit Road. If driving you can get to it by travelling south on Sukhumvit Road past both Thepprasit and Chaiaphruk Roads. Look for the signs for the floating market which you can't miss. Alternatively get a baht bus or ever motorbike taxi. If driving you can park at the front of the markets or at the rear.

Pattaya Floating Market has been developed on the site of the Lake View Restaurant and it claims to the largest floating market in the Eastern Region. It covers an area of 100,000sqm.

The aim of the market is to capture the old way of Thai life. The constructions are made of teak. Items and food are available from the four regions of Thailand. The area is divided into four areas reflecting the represent four region of Thailand, namely North, Central, North Eastern and Southern. Many of the shops sell art and craft items.

Other than shopping and eating there are other activities. Boats are available for rent to get a slightly different view of the development. Dancing shows and demonstrations are performed.

The use of the words 'floating market' is a bit of a misnomer. Yes, there are boats from which you can buy food. However, most of the shopping is found on platforms constructed over the lake. That said the place is worth a visit if you have spare time.

The first photograph shows one of the boats from which food is sold from.

The photo below shows one of the platforms on which the shops selling Thai items are built.

There are quite a few water features built on the lake. Some of these illustrate Thai rural life.

Again more boats selling food. The food and drinks at the markets is reasonably priced. You can even get a one hour foot massage for 150 Baht.

The day these photos were taken was during the working week. Despite the photograph below indicating otherwise it was fairly busy. I suspect it would be a lot busier on weekends. For more information on Pattaya Floating Market you may like to check out their website: Pattaya Floating Market.
